Another glimps in the head of a crazy person

London Blog: Day 2

Mood: Dancing

On Friday, we woke pretty early got dressed and made our way towards the Tesco for some breakfast. But since we were there just before 7am we had to wait until they opened at 7. After that we took the train and searched for the Spring Awakening theatre, which we found pretty quickly. We were that at around 7.45am. So from 7.45 to 10am we sat in front of the theater waiting until they opened, and eating our breakfast. When the doors opened, we rushed in to get our front row seats :D   Kris and I decided we wanted to go to the matinee of Dirty Dancing as well, so we rushed to get some tickets. Then we rushed out again looking for a toilet. After we walked around for half an hour or more, with our plans constantly changing, I got rather ticked off, coz I reaaally needed to pee, XD. We went back in to the Spar for some extra food. We entered the Cyber Candy shop (prolly the best candy shop in London) and we went to the Dress Circle, where we found some really cool stuff. We jumped in to this Manga store for a browse and the movie store next to it (where I bought some Edward Cullen cards and the family crest charm and a photo of Spike from Buffy and Xena Warrior Princess). Then we went in search of toilets again. So then we went to Leicester Square, where they have these free toilets somewhere. We went to the little park they have there and sat around for a while, eating some more and filming. And then we split up. Kris and I stayed behind  until it was time for us to go to Dirty Dancing and the others went shopping. But we agreed that after the show, we would all meet up at the Pizzahut for dinner.

But before we went to Dirty Dancing, I wanted to find a silver marker so people could sign my stuff. So we went in and out of some shops, but we couldn’t find anything :( And then we were walking towards the theater again, but I saw something that caught my eye, so I wanted to see what it was. And it was a clothing store for men  not what I wanted. So I told Kris that we would walk until the end of the street and if we couldn’t find anything, we would go back to the theatre. And low and behold!! At the end of the street was an Art store! And…. THEY HAD SHARPIES!!! So I bought some Sharpies (13 different colours, since they are the best markers to have) and we left, smiling happily, to go to the theater. When we got there it was rather crowded. We walked up to the front door, since we already had our tickets, but were told that for our tickets, we had to use the side entrance. O_O So we go around the back and have to wait for ever to get inside. But once inside we quickly took our seats and waited for the show to start.

I had my doubts about the show before, because I grew up on the movie Dirty Dancing and I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it, but you know… it was EXACTLY like watching the movie! Except I was there! The lead roles didn’t sing the songs, they just acted and danced. And three or four other people, who were more like being ensemble, were singing the songs and they were seriously amazing! The only thing I didn’t like very much was the woman that played Penny. She was a little stiff in her acting and shaking her ass too much. And according to Kris, her dancing was off as well, but I will have to take her word for it :P

So after the show, we bought some merchandise (I got a cool black spaghetti shirt saying "nobody puts Baby in a corner!" which is like the line before they do their final dance. And I got the program booklet. Kris got a pink shirt saying "This is my dance space" which is where Baby makes fun of Johnnie for the first time and Kris also got the program booklet. When we were done, we quickly walked back to Covent garden where the Pizzahut was. We talked a little about the musical over dinner and what everybody bought before we headed back to the Spring Awakening theater.

At Spring Awakening we had front row seats in the middle of the row. Which really rocked. It was the best places in the house. There were also seats on the stage where you could sit, but you had to be really quiet and sometimes you saw the actors from behind, so you would miss part of their facial expressions. The songs for Spring Awakening are really awesome and the piece itself is quite powerful. If you are not familiar with it, I suggest you look it up. I promise you won’t be disappointed. Even though the actors were rather young, they had such control over their voices that they could prolly teach many a singer a thing or two. Now the lead actor, Aneurin Barnard, who played Melchior Gabore looked way too much like Elijah Wood as Frodo in Lord of the Rings. So since all of us kept forgetting the name Melchior, we kept calling him Frodo. His singing was phenomenal! He could cry his eyes out and keep the tremors out of his face. I say two thumbs to him. (oh and he bares his butt, which was quite a good shocker, ) Then there was Jamie Blackley. He played this gay guy called Hanschen. We thought he looked like Draco from Harry Potter, so that’s what we called him. He was awesome in his role. He did a scene where he was basically masturbating under his PJ’s. Another thing we did not expect. I applaud you! Edd Judge as Otto was AMAZING. he has such a strong voice! He had the funniest hair prolly, but everything paled as soon as he started singing. And then Iwan Rheon as Moritz Schtieffel. Now there is a guy that can rock anyone out of their chair. I have no words really, it was amazing. Plus the scenes between Melchior and Moritz were half of the whole musical. Charlotte Wakefield as Wendla. She was the lead actress. She was good, the role was strong, but she wasn’t my favourite girl in the musical (even if she did have an eerie resemblance to Hermione from Harry Potter). Hayley Gallivan as Martha was my favourite. She didn’t have that many lines, but her performance of The Dark I Know So Well gave me goose bumps. But I don’t want to tell too much. The best thing is to go and see the show yourself.

So after Spring Awakening, we went back to the hostel. We talked some more about the show and how the cast reminded us of other people and how awesome the songs were. We also agreed that the London cast is better than the Original Broadway Cast. Or at least better than the cd  I seriously needed a shower too and so did some of the others. So I showered and I freaked when I was suddenly standing in a little pool. Turns out the drain wasn’t working properly  After that we pretty much fell asleep :P

London Blog: Day 1

Song : This Is How Dreams Come True – Shrek the Musical
Mood : Excited

Hey everyone… boy, do I have a story for you! But let’s not get ahead of things. We will start at the beginning. So it’s Wednesday and I’m in the train, calling Sophie to tell her I am late, as I missed my train. She says it’s okay and we hang up. About 10 minutes later, she calls me back telling me to take my time. She forgot the most important thing, that she was NOT allowed to forget…. the Wicked Clogs.
That’s right.. Wicked Clogs! So at half past 5pm, we meet up and take the bus to Kris. We arrive there, have some dinner, sort out some playmobile and watch a little Hercules (gotta have that daily dose). And then, since we’re all pretty beat, we hit the hay.

The next day, everything seems normal, well except then that Joxer gets killed… oh no wait, wrong text. So anyway, we wake up the next day and Kris’ dad drives us to Hoek van Holland. Where our boat would be leaving. We have some coffee and coco and wait for the fourth girl in our party, Ilse. When she arrives, she tells us about how some idiot drove his car in to a crowd, trying to hit the bus with the Royal Family on it (since it was Queen’s Day) but ended up smashing his car against a monument. Some people… ugh.

So anyway, since Ilse was there, we could check in and get on the boat. The boat was bigger than we expected. We quickly decided that we would go outside and enjoy the sun while we still could. That said, we spent most of our trip outside there huddled around the table to listen to the music coming from Sophie’s iPod and Ilse’s boxes. We sang along to RENT, McLeod’s Daughters and Wicked. Then we went inside when we got cold and the whole accident thing was all over the news. We watched it for a little while before we decided it was enough and we’d seen it all, and that playing cards would be much more fun. So that’s what we did.

Then we could pick up our bags again and depart the boat to go to the train. We quickly took the train (where I got called a tramp by some guy! wtf? :O ) so we finally arrived at Liverpool Station, where we took the Tube to Bayswater station, where the hostel was located. Upon arriving there, we got some food at the Subway (the deli place, not the underground metro :P ) and headed for the hostel where the last two of our group were waiting (they took the plane) and got the room key, paid the last things and then pretty much hit the sack again. We set the alarm for 6 in the morning or something so we could get day seats for Spring Awakening.
